How long do acrylic sheets actually last?

2025 07/29

There’s no strict timeline, it all depends on where you use ’em and how you treat ’em. Typically, they’ll hang in there for 3 to 15 years, and sometimes even longer than that.
What messes with how long acrylic sheets last?
Sun and UV rays: If they’re out in direct sunlight all day, they’ll start to turn yellow and get weaker real quick.
Temperature: They can’t take too much heat—over 60°C, and they might start to bend or warp. And super cold’s no good either; they’ll get brittle and break super easy.
Chemicals: Stuff like alcohol or acids will totally ruin ’em. The only safe way to clean ’em is with soapy water.
Rough handling or too much weight: If you’re rough with ’em or pile too much on top, they could crack.

How long do they last in different spots?
Indoors (like for displays or lights): 8 to 15 years.
Outdoors without UV protection: 3 to 5 years. Being out in the sun and rain nonstop makes ’em crack or turn yellow faster.
Outdoors with a UV coating: 5 to 8 years. The coating helps a little, but not all that much.
Aquariums: 10 to 15 years. No sunlight in there, and the water stays steady, so they last longer.
